Co-Lead Trainer, Somatic Movement Professional and Author
Dr. Martha Eddy is a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist and founder of Dynamic Embodiment Somatic Movement Education & Therapy and author of Mindful Movement – the evolution of somatic arts and conscious action. She taught on the faculties of LIMS for Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals, as well as the School for Body-Mind Centering® for 10 years. She continues to provide Master Workshops in each. She is on the editorial board of Body Movement and Psychotherapy and Currents the Journal of the Body-Mind Centering Association, and is faculty of three low residency graduate schools (situated in California, North Carolina and the Greater NYC area). Each department has invited her to teach her work in Dynamic Embodiment (DE). DE prepares graduates for certification in Moving For Life DanceExercise for Health® and BodyMind DancingSM . Over the past thirty years she has served on the faculties of New York University, Columbia University, Princeton University, San Francisco State University and numerous undergraduate colleges. Dr. Eddy is active as a lecturer, director of a non-profit agency, university scholar, a performer and teacher of somatic dance. She earned a BA in Dance Education, a Masters in Applied Physiology and a Doctorate in Movement Science and Education Columbia University. She specializes in neuromotor development, perceptual-motor enhancement through experiential learning, recovery from stress and trauma, and embodied approaches to violence prevention and peace education.
She is frequently asked to engage in peer review of books on somatic education as well as diverse subjects for journals – from robotics to cultural awareness of the body. She has been invited to lead trainings and present papers in dozens of countries on 5 continents. She developed two nationally-acclaimed DVDs – Dance to Recovery for Breast Cancer Survivors (with features on CNN, CBS, NBC, WNPR among others) and EyeOpeners with EyesOpenMinds, Inc. In October 2017 she received the prestigious Outstanding Leadership in Dance Education award from the National Dance Education Organization. She is working on four new books and continues to train professionals in her curricula: Moving For Life Certified Instructors, Certified Teachers of BodyMind Dancing and Dynamic Embodiment Practitioners.
